Gary Johnston will present “Building Wealth: Has the Cheese Moved?” Topic for Meeting: Building Wealth: Has the cheese moved?
Gary Johnston has been an active real estate and note investor for over 20 years. Gary worked for Hewlett-Packard for 16 years where he was Director of Research & Development in the LaserJet Business Unit before leaving the “rat race” at the age of 38. Gary will share some of the changes he sees in the current environment and things we should consider before investing today. He will also share tools and strategies you can use to build lasting wealth. This description isn’t sexy and doesn’t include how much Gary is respected by long-time real estate investors. Gary is one of those students that you would find attending Jack Miller, Jimmy Napier, John Schaub and Peter Fortunato seminars and always made those seminars so enriching. Gary planned and strategized his exit from Hewlett Packard. Gary now teaches classes and here’s what several respected local real estate investors and educators (and well-liked SDCIA speakers) say: “After attending your class, I’ve added it to the ‘must take’ list of classes I recommend to beginners as well as seasoned pros. Everyone who is in this business needs the info you share. A real eye opener. 3 days extremely well spent” __ Mike Cantu – CA “One of the 5 best classes I have ever been to (and I go to a lot of them). Gary does a great job of making it easy to learn about the magic of this very important area of investing. This class is a must for all Real Estate Investors. You will love the class!” __ Reggie Lal – CA “I PAY family members to take Gary’s class!” __ Bill Tan Meeting ParticularsTuesday, July 13, 2010. Registration and net-working at 6:00pm. Meeting at 7:00pm. Scottish Rite Center, 1895 Camino del Rio South, San Diego CA, 92108 $10 for members, $20 for non-members
Gary’s Biography: When I gave my first class, I thought I would teach one and be done. In the class, we could record a video for the kids and grandkids and focus back on investing. Oddly enough, people from the first class asked when we were going to do the next class, and the snowball just keeps rolling. In the process, we have received feedback from students that the material has had a significant impact in their lives. I grew up in a small logging and ranching community in eastern Oregon without a lot of money. My Dad always said, “There is a big difference between being broke and being poor.” One is a temporary money state and the other is a debilitating mental process. While growing up, I was fortunate to have mentors like my parents and a man by the name of Norbert Volny. He always told me, “You will never get rich on a W-2.” He encouraged me to build assets that generated cash flow. After graduating from high school, I received my Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from the Oregon Institute of Technology. I then worked for Hewlett-Packard for 16 years. During that time, I received my Masters of Science in Management from Purdue University. Most importantly, I applied the things I had been taught from my parents, Norbert Volny, and other mentors I had met along the way; buying real estate and building assets that generate cash flow. I was fortunate to be able to leave the HP and the rat race at the age 38. My hope for you is that you learn the principles and strategies that will allow you to build the financial future you desire. If I can be of any help in that journey, please let me know.
