The State of Rental Housing and Operating Under Rent Control & Just Cause

The rental housing landscape has evolved over the years. In California specifically, this means a multitude of regulation that owners and managers of rental housing must be familiar with. At the same time, California is facing a massive deficit of housing units. As demand continues to outpace supply, many in government are looking to prevent displacement and gentrification, which translates to further limiting the rights of private property owners and the profitability of rental investments. SCRHA will discuss the current state of rental housing and the major provisions of AB 1482, the rent control bill recently signed by Governor Newsom.

  • How much and how often you can raise rent.
  • What happens if you raised your rent since March 15, 2019.
  • How Just Cause works and the two types.
  • Which properties are exempt from the new law.
